I trained in Theater of the Oppressed with S. Leigh Thompson and Alex Santiago-Jirau through The Forum Project. From formal trainings to an Occupy the Stage project, to a few years with their forum
performance troupe, to more intimate community-based work, I had the privilege of working with TO techniques and theories from many angles and within various contexts and goals. Since my time in NYC, I have relocated to Santa Fe, NM, where I facilitate TO both professionally (in after-school at Girls Inc of Santa Fe and with classroom teachers at Rio Grande Mindfulness Institute) and in community (with my local women’s circle, an adult “play” group, and my community center). In each of these settings, TO   facilitates the creation of new and relevant practices for accountability, solidarity, and cultural sustainability. Whether we are co-creating a language for peer-support or de-colonizing an organization's strategic planning processes, whether working with 5 year olds or 50 year olds, TO and critical pedagogy work has facilitated transformative justice within these groups of diverse identities and diverging relationships with the land and history of Santa Fe. Applying this complex work in culture-building with 5-10 year olds has been particularly profound and I am excited to share what they have taught me!
